Kathleen’s Portfolio:
Featuring Articles Written for the Fairfield Mirror
My experience at Fairfield University has been defined by my work as an editor for The Fairfield Mirror.
Our independent student newspaper has allowed me to hone my skills and provided a platform to unleash my creativity.
As a first-year student, I began my journey as a Contributing Writer and felt invigorated by seeing my prose published in print! By the second semester, I was hired as the Assistant News Editor and was immersed in the behind-the-scenes action of the newsroom. I broadened my horizons, as I developed a deeper understanding of the intricate process of curating a 16-page weekly newspaper.
Equipped with a keen knowledge of AP Style and Adobe InDesign, I was promoted to the position on the Editorial Board as the Managing Editor. In this role, I have utilized my background in digital design to build a flourishing social media presence. Moreover, my roots in the theatre shape my public speaking abilities as a thoughtful interviewer and host of “The Mirror Show,'“ which airs live on Wednesdays on WVOF 88.5 FM radio.
I have built meaningful partnerships with campus leaders and mentors in the media field to provide enriching opportunities for my team. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to lead and energize a staff of students who share my passion for authentic storytelling and self-expression.
